Rusatom Smart Utilities and Tyazhmash Agree to Cooperate in the Sphere of Small Hydropower Sector

Within the framework of the XIII International Forum ATOMEXPO-2024, held in Sochi, Rusatom Smart Utilities (is part of the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM) has signed a cooperation agreement with JSC Tyazhmash. The document aims at development of cooperation for the purpose of production, equipping and construction of container-type mini-HPP (mini hydropower plants) of nearby 1 MW in average capacity in Russia and abroad.

The container mini-HPP is a high-potential area of development of the renewable energy sector. The plant represents a turbine and a set of auxiliary equipment installed in a container. Use of such a type of HPP does not require construction of dams; moreover, technical characteristics of this equipment allow to install it even in the places of water outflow from purification plants. This allows to reduce launch time and lower costs of construction works several times. After transportation to the place of installation and connection of water to the turbine, production of electricity may start during 1 month.

The mini-HPP may be controlled remotely, using a cellular network or via the Internet (including in the mobile implementation). All this makes application of container mini-HPPs expedient and attractive in the regions, the connection of which to the centralized electricity supply is related with material difficulties or is economically unviable.

Tyazhmash is among Russia’s leading hydroturbine equipment manufacturers.

The agreement was signed till the year 2029 with an option to renew it.
